It’s been a wild ride with ChatGPT this past year! ‍

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT had 100 million monthly active users by January 2023, just two months after its launch in November 2022. And by November 2023, the tool had an impressive 100 million weekly active users.

A recent survey by Glassdoor reveals that the impact of ChatGPT on the workplace has been significant. In the survey, 62% of professionals reported using generative AI tools at work, up from 27% in November 2022. The marketing industry is leading the way, with a whopping 77% of professionals using generative AI at work . Consultants and advertising professionals are also embracing ChatGPT, with 71% and 67% of them, respectively, using it in their daily work.

However, adoption rates vary across industries. While marketing, consulting, and advertising are enthusiastic about ChatGPT, the insurance industry is taking a more cautious approach, with only 33% of professionals using generative AI at work. Similarly, 38% of lawyers and 40% of healthcare professionals reported using generative AI in their daily tasks.
Interestingly, there is a noticeable gender divide when it comes to using ChatGPT at work. According to the Glassdoor survey, 66% of male professionals reported using the tool, while 57% of female professionals said they use it. This disparity highlights the importance of ensuring equal access and training for both genders as businesses implement new technology.
As companies embrace ChatGPT and other AI tools, they must navigate the balance between utilizing their potential and maintaining privacy and security. According to a survey by PwC, 44% of US CEOs view generative AI as a tool that will boost profits in the next year, underscoring the significant impact of this technology.
To facilitate the integration of AI into the workplace, tech companies are offering AI-powered tools specifically designed for professional use. For instance, Amazon launched Q, a ChatGPT-powered tool designed for the workplace. Many HCM, HRIS, and productivity management tools are also incorporating generative AI to support employees and businesses.
As we look ahead, learning and development professionals will play a crucial role in equipping employees with the skills needed to thrive in the AI-infused workplace. By leveraging these tools, businesses can enhance productivity, drive innovation, and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving industry.
In short, ChatGPT has been a game-changer this year, and it’s exciting to see how it’s transforming the way we work.
